About this publication
A quiet journal for people who care about the cup.
Brew & Bean Journal is written for readers who measure their coffee in grams, who keep a notebook by the kettle, and who would rather fix a brew than buy a new machine.
What this publication is
It is an independent online journal covering home coffee brewing — pour-over technique, grind size, water chemistry, ratio science, and honest notes on roasts and origins. Articles are written, edited, and fact-checked by a small team of practitioners who actually brew the coffee they write about.
The editorial focus is narrow on purpose. There are no machine reviews, no merchandise, no listicles. Every article is meant to leave the reader with something they can test at home the same day.
What it is not
Brew & Bean Journal is not affiliated with any parent company, retailer, roaster, or equipment brand. It does not accept paid placements, sponsored articles, or affiliate links disguised as editorial. When a product is mentioned, it is because the editors bought it, used it, and decided it was worth describing honestly.
How it is funded
The journal is reader-funded. A small annual reader contribution covers hosting, research materials, and the time it takes to test a recipe end-to-end before publishing. Newsletter subscribers receive one short email when a new article goes live. That subscriber list is not sold, shared, or used for anything else.
Editorial standards
Every published article has been brewed at least once by the author. Recipe posts include a method, ratios, grind setting, water profile, and the result. When an article is updated, the change is noted at the top of the page. Corrections are made openly and dated, never silently.
Who reads it
Home practitioners who want to get more from what they already own. People moving past the first year of pour-over who want to understand the variables underneath the ritual. Readers who would rather read 800 words about extraction yield than 80 words about a new flagship grinder.
